Range Cooker Buying Guide

Fuel Types

The first thing to consider when choosing to buy a new cooker, is the fuel type, fuel types are usually Dual Fuel (gas hob, electric ovens), All Gas, All Electric (ceramic or Induction hob) or LPG.

Cooker size, Style & Colour

The next thing to consider is size, Range cookers come in varying sizes with the most popular sizes being 90cm, 100cm, 110cm and 120cm wide. Choose a colour & style to match your existing kitchen, or build yourself a new kitchen around the style of your new cooker. Styles can vary from traditional looking (Farm House) to modern looking Clean lines. Whichever you choose, cooking will become a pleasure, rather than a chore.

Guide To Hobs

Gas

gas is the bench mark that all other hobs are judged against. From the moment you turn a gas hob on you have instant heat and when you turn it down the temperature drops immediately. It is also widely recognised that gas is the most energy efficient fuel source for hobs because you are burning fuel directly with very little waste.

Ceramic

ceramic is the standard electric hob. It heats up faster than solid plate but its still not as responsive as gas. Most modern ceramic hobs come with a "hob hot" indicator that lets you know when the ceramic is still too warm to touch.

Induction

Induction is the only electric hob that gives gas a genuine run for its money. Although initially expensive induction hobs are as responsive as gas, as fast to heat up (if not faster) and a joy to cook with. Because induction hobs generate heat in the pan the surface of the hob remains mostly cool and any heat is that which has come off the pan making them extra safe.
